Applicant Information
Senior Fellow Applicants
The Senior Fellow may come from any discipline, but must be scholars of recognized prominence in any area appropriate to the 2010-2011 program: “The Intersection of Diaspora, Immigration, and Gender in World History.” Applicant’s work must fall in the time period 1800 to the present.. The Fellow will be expected to fully participate in the CHR program, provide occasional advice to the Director, conduct one of the program seminars, and offer a graduate course coinciding with the year’s program.
In addition to a curriculum vitae, applicants must submit a 3 to 5 page letter stating how their research, past and present, relates to the program’s themes; their data base and research questions—how their data will be used to answer the questions they pose; what they intend to accomplish during their year at the Center; and their prospective contribution to the Center program. Three letters of reference should also be sent to the CHR by the application deadline of February 15, 2010.
It is preferred that the Senior Fellow will participate in the full program extending from late September to early June, but consideration will be given for shorter term fellowships of 1 or 2 quarters (with a proportional reduction in compensation). The Senior Fellow will receive a stipend of $60,000 with benefits at a rate of 8.5%, and a research fund of $4,000. Affiliated fellows will be invited to participate in all History Department activities, including our ongoing seminars: the Early Modern Seminar, the Women’s History Seminar, the Early American Seminar, the Modern U.S. Seminar, and any other seminars and conferences supported by the department. Fellows will have access to facilities of The Ohio State University, its libraries, and the normal social amenities sponsored on campus. The History Department and the College of Humanities will provide visiting fellows with office space equipped with personal computers, staff assistance, research support, copying facilities, telefax and e-mail service, and access to the internet.
