Denmark : Postdoc in Modern European Studies

From February 1, 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter a three year post.doc is available in Modern European Studies. The candidate must have a research project, in one or more of the following areas:
  • European history
  • European Literature and culture
  • European film and media culture
  • European history of ideas
 
Projects of a cross disciplinary, comparative and cross European nature or with a broader  European and global perspective will be given first priority.
 
The appointed post.doc will be based both at the Centre for Modern European Studies (CEMES) and at he most relevant of one of the eight departments at the Faculty of Humanities.  See www.cemes.ku.dk and http://www.humanities.ku.dk/departments/.

The successful postdoc applicant is offered to complete the University´s pedagogical training during the employment period.
 
Applications
The documentation enclosed with the application must include a CV, a project description, details of academic, teaching, administrative and any other relevant qualifications, as well as previous employment.
 
The project description must be of max. 12,000 keystrokes (typically 5 pages of 2,400 keystrokes) including spaces, notes and references, but excluding bibliography, must also be enclosed along with the application. The project description must include an account of the purpose of the work (problem formulation, theoretical basis and any relevant hypotheses) as well as the academic and social perspective, a brief background and status of existing knowledge, a research plan, including the methods to be used, and an expected timetable, considerations about methodology and empirical material in relation to feasibility and, if relevant, to the ethical aspects of the research.
 
A complete and numbered list of publications must also be enclosed, stipulating which works the applicant wishes to be taken into consideration - marked with an asterisk (*). Applicants must choose a maximum of 3 publications for assessment, of which minimum 2 must have been published within the last 5 years prior to the expiry of the deadline for applications. The publication date must be clearly marked on the list of publications. These works must be submitted in 5 copies.
 
Application and enclosures must be submitted in 6 copies, of which 1 must be in loose leaf.
 
Only original materials submitted by applicants will be returned at the end of the appointment process.
 
Applications sent by e-mail will not be accepted, but applicants are requested to list their e-mail address together with complete name and address on the front page of the application so that e-mail correspondence can be used in the administrative process at the faculty.
 
Appointment procedure
Once the deadline for applications has been reached, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to consider the appointment concerned.
 
All applicants will be informed who is serving on the committee, and the individual applicants will be offered the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before an appointment is announced.

Salary and employment terms
Remuneration and conditions as per the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the appropriate trade union. The annual salary for the postdoc is approx DKK 370,000 plus 17.1% of the salary paid to a pension scheme.
