Call for Papers
Denmark : Several Phd Positions-Sparse Signal Processing in Wireless Communications (SparSig)
At the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine, Department of Electronic Systems several positions as Ph.D. fellow (positions no. 562/06-29219A+B+C) are open for appointment from 1.2.2010.
Job description:
Sparse Signal Processing in Wireless Communications (SparSig)
The PhD stipends are available within the general study programme “Wireless Communications”.
Two sections at the Department of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University, Denmark have received a grant from the Danish Strategic Research Council to make a project in the area of sparse signal processing in wireless communications (SparSig). The overall objectives of the project are:
• To develop a theoretical and simulation framework for handling sparse signals in communication systems.
• To develop techniques for sub-sampling, signal processing and signal regeneration of realistic RF communication signals, which are polluted with noise, non-linear distortion, and interfering signals.
• To develop techniques for sparse signal transformation, signal processing, and signal regeneration of realistic audio and video signals, which cover an important class of signals in communication.
• To experimentally prove the theoretical findings by implementing a prototype with the key electronics to show measured results.
To support this project we open several positions:
1. PhD position (562/06-8-29219A): Sparse signal representation, signal transformation, and signal processing with focus on RF communication signals. The applicant must have a masters degree in communication technology, math or similar and a solid experience in signal processing, modeling, simulation techniques etc.
2. PhD position (562/06-8-29219B): Sparse signal transformation and processing, and signal regeneration with focus on true audio and video signals. The applicant must have a masters degree in communication technology, math or similar and a solid experience in signal processing, modeling, simulation techniques etc.
3. PhD position (562/06-8-29219C): Experimental verification of RF receivers based on sparse sampling and processing techniques as well as investigation of the performance degradation due to imperfect implementation components when using real life RF signals with interference and noise. The applicant must have a solid experience in RF circuits, RF measurement techniques, circuit design etc. Experience in IC design using Cadence is an advantage. To become PhD student in this area a masters degree is needed.
The detailed project description can be found here: http://www.es.aau.dk/sections/technology_platforms_tps/staff/vacancies/
An application must be submitted for each position you want to apply – this means that one submitted application can ONLY cover one position. Electronic applications are NOT accepted, and applications cannot be submitted to Professor Larsen! Applications must be submitted to the official university address given below.
Qualification requirements:
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 18 of January 14, 2008 on the PhD Programme at the Universities. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.
The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine will make a decision for allocating the stipend.
Appointment and salary acc. to the Ministry of Finance Circular of January 11, 2006 on the Collective Agreement for Academics in Denmark, Appendix 5, regarding PhD fellows, and with the Ministry of Finance Circular of June 13, 2007 on the employment structure at Danish Universities.
